Haywood EMC works to provide reliable, affordable and safe services. Sometimes, that includes making a trip to visit with elected officials. In April, members of Haywood EMC's Staff and Board joined North Carolina's Electric Cooperatives and the National Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (NRECA) to meet with Congressman Chuck Edwards, Senator Ted Budd and Senator Thom Tillis.
During these meetings, Haywood EMC discussed federal energy policy and issues that may effect our member-owners. The policies and issues are non-partisan and are discussed with elected officials across the political spectrum. While many issues were discussed, the focus was keeping electricity affordable and reliable for our member-owners and communities.
Energy demand is skyrocketing across the United States, particularly in North Carolina. At the same time, the Federal Government has ruled for premature closure of always available power plants. Without utilizing all available methods to produce electricity (including renewable energy, natural gas, nuclear and more), Haywood EMC's member-owners could face periods of unreliable and unaffordable electricity.
Haywood EMC thanks Congressman Chuck Edwards, Senator Ted Budd and Senator Thom Tillis for their time to discuss these important issues!
