Safety is the primary requirement for the interconnection with Haywood EMC. When there is a power outage, all energy generating sources connected to the grid must disconnect from the utility automatically until the electrical grid is restored. In addition, the power line work crews from Haywood EMC must be able to physically disconnect an interconnection by means of a lockable safety switch easily accessible and clearly marked near the electrical service connection. This is for their safety while they work on the power lines. The following is a partial list of regulations adopted by electrical power companies governing interconnections:
Underwriters Laboratory 1741-2005 UL1741—Standard for Static Inverters and Charge Controllers for Use in Photovoltaic Power Systems
National Electrical Code 2011
Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers - 929-2000 - Inverter Interconnection Standard
Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers - 1547-2003 - Interconnecting Distributed Resources with Electric Power Systems
