Earth Day is April 22. To celebrate, Haywood EMC wants to help our member-owners reduce their impact this Spring and Summer with these five energy-saving tips:
- Service your air conditioner- Even DIY maintenance such as regularly replacing or cleaning air filters can reduce the cooling systems energy usage by up to 15%.
- Caulk air leaks- Use low-cost caulk to close any air leaks or seal cracks around your home to keep warm air outside during warm months and warm air inside during the cooler months.
- Cook outside- With warmer weather and more daylight in spring and summer, plan to grill out rather than cooking on a stove or in an oven indoors, which can add unwanted heat to your home.
- Set your thermostat- If you have a programmable thermostat, leave it on a higher setting during warmer months when you are away from home. This can reduce energy usage by approximately 10%.
- Open windows- Allow your hoe to become naturally cooler on milder days this Spring and Summer. Opening windows can create a crosswise breeze that will cool your home naturally.
Saving energy not only can make an impact for our planet, but it also impacts your wallet! Lowering your energy usage can help lower your monthly bill.
