On May 12, 2022, Haywood EMC officials "flipped the switch" and energized the cooperative's first solar array at the Waynesville Headquarters. This project marked its commitment to powering a brighter future with clean energy.
One year later, Haywood EMC has compiled stats and data points to show the impact this has made for the cooperative and it's member-owners.
In one year this solar array has generated over 840MWh of clean, renewable energy. To produce this amount of energy through traditional generation methods it would take the following:
- Approximately 462,000 tons of coal
- Approximately 6.3 million cubic feet of natural gas
- Approximately 1.3 billion gallons of water spilling over a hydroelectric dam
This solar project has offset more than 598 metric tons of CO2 emissions over the span of one year -- that's an average of 1.6 metric tons offset per day!
While this solar project may have been Haywood EMC’s first, it is certainly not the last. Stay tuned to our website and social media pages for how you can take part in what is coming soon with Haywood EMC’s next solar project!
