Haywood EMC has awarded over $10,000 in grant funding to local K-12 educators in support of ten innovative projects that will positively impact students in our community! These grants bring creative projects to life inside classrooms and expand learning opportunities for local students. Grants are awarded for projects in all subject areas, including music, art, history, reading, science, math, and more.
This year’s Bright Ideas grant winners are:

- Tonya Pruett – Smokey Mountain Elementary School
- Katie Sorrells – Bethel Middle School
- Laura Smith – Brevard High School
- Arlie Clark – Riverbend Elementary School
- Suzanne Miller – Tuscola High School
- Carly Pugh – Waynesville Middle School
- Danielle Pettyjohn – Riverbend Elementary School
- Windy Tidwell – Smokey Mountain Elementary School
- Michelle Burge – Claxton Elementary School
Since 1994, North Carolina’s 26 electric cooperatives have collectively awarded more than $15 million for over 14,200 projects benefiting 3.5 million students.
