Last month, Haywood EMC and Contractor crews worked together to replace two high-voltage steel transmission line poles. Located behind Haywood Community College in Clyde, these poles were bent and damaged during a windstorm in April.
These high-voltage lines needed to be de-energized in order to replace these poles quickly and safely - thus, having a planned power outage was needed. The crews of lineman were able to expedite the process of removing power lines from the old, damaged poles and attach them to the newly placed poles by having fewer preparation steps than if the power-lines were energized.
The process of making repairs of this size along transmission lines doesn't occur often. This gave Senior Linemen the opportunity to further train the next generation of lineman these steps and processes to ensure hands on experience.
Haywood EMC would like to thank all member-owners affected by the planned outage for their patience and understanding during this necessary planned power outage to ensure greater reliability for years to come!
